Samsung Unveils The Largest Hard Drive In the World. Its called Samsung PM1633a SSD and fits 16 terabytes into a 2.5-inch SSD.
When it comes to data space, photographers will never have enough. Samsung recently announced a 16 terabyte flash memory drive which could fit very well inside your pocket.
ArsTechnica explained that the drive uses Samsung’s newest 256 gigabit NAND flash die technology. This is combined with a 3D stacking technique to effectively fit more storage into the same space. Traditionally, flash chips are arranged flat on a two dimensional plane, but Samsung now instead stacks several layers of memory cells next to one another to achieve greater storage density.
The largest conventional hard drives made by Seagate and Western Digital currently max out at 8 or 10TB.
Samsung has not announced the price of this 16TB PM1633a, but it could very well retail for around US $7500. Its a huge amount to spend but you would be the owner of the world’s largest drive!
Check out the prices and storage options of normal Hard-Disks. SSD are expensive but will become mainstream soon. They are fast and consumes less energy.
