Laowa 24mm f/14 2x Macro Lens Announced at Photokina
Anhui ChangGeng Optical Technology Company Limited (Venus Optics) is a new Chinese camera lens manufacturer based in Hefei, Anhui. They currently manufacture and distribute Macro lenses under the brand name of ‘Laowa’.
Venus optics was formed by a group of macro photography enthusiast and they have been trying to develop lenses with exceptional quality and affordable price. They do not rely on any teleconverter or extender tube which may be annoying and time consuming at times.
There current lineup of lenses include:
- Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus (STF) Lens (Check price and reviews)
- LAOWA 15mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro Lens (Price and reviews)
- LAOWA 60mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra-Macro Lens (Price and review), and the upcoming
- Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D
Out of all it’s product the LAOWA 15mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro lens seems to be quite popular and highly rated.
This year at Photokina they have introduced an eye catching design for new lens called Laowa 24mm f/14 Replay 2x Macro. The lens will be coming to market in 2017 and it will help the macro photographers to shoot the shy subjects from distance. (Although you still be poking that long barrel on their nose).
The lens is capable of 2:1 maximum macro reproduction ratio. It will be resistant to temperature and extreme conditions and it’s full-frame compatible which sounds exciting. The pricing and availability is yet to be announced but given their claim to produce budget macro lenses it should not put pressure on your pockets if at all you want to buy one.
